A Case for NOT Eliminating the Best Animated Feature Oscar

Over at Cartoon Brew, Armid Amidi posted his case to eliminate the Best Animation Feature Oscar Category, as a response to Mark Harris' Grantland post on the subject.. While both give very good reasons why the category is "statistically speaking, silly and unnecessary," I say that the category should be expanded. Not just in number of nominees, but in the number of animation related categories. The Oscars could have a mini-Annie ceremony inside the main film awards ceremony. In fact, every genre of film making should be represented like this. As noted in the comments of the Cartoon Brew post, the Grammies already do this for music, and I don't see how film is any different. I want to see categories such as Best Interactive Animation, Best Animated Musical, Best Animated Comedy, Best Animated Drama, Best Animated Special Effects, Best Voice Acting, and the Best Animation Feature Score! There is no reason to not have these outside of politics, and we all know where politics gets us.
