Toy Story 4: The Milking

Tom Hanks says Toy Story 4 is in the works during a BBC interview.

This can only mean that Disney has not yet milked everything out of the franchise.

Hanks appeared on the BBC’s Breakfast News this morning in an interview to support the release of his new feature Larry Crowne, out here on the 7th of July. It appears that the interview was filmed a couple of weeks back when Hanks was doing big junket days in London.

NEW YORK, June 14, 2011 -- COMEDY CENTRAL’s “Ugly Americans” returns for a wet, hot summer of zombie-loving good times with affable human social worker Mark Lilly (voiced by Matt Oberg), along with his creature cohorts of demons, wizards and robots. The COMEDY CENTRAL original, animated comedy returns with 10 half-hour episodes beginning on Thursday, June 30 at 10:30 p.m., following all-new episodes of the Emmy® Award-winning series "Futurama," as part of a weekly, one-hour “Thurs-Dimension” animation block. Special guest voice appearances for the second season include Christine Baranski, Rob Riggle, Todd Barry and Jenny Slate.

Take New York City, add every horrifying beast, science-fiction freak and fantasy faerie, shake thoroughly, and you've got "Ugly Americans," an animated series that follows Mark Lilly, a social worker at the Department of Integration, as he helps new citizens both human and "other" adapt to hectic life in the Big Apple. There are easier tasks than soothing a vengeful mummy, being a slave in Satan’s dark army and trying to circumcise wizards, but Mark proves he’s up to the challenge, even if his co-workers are as incompetent as ever.

Mark's case load during the second season is heavy as always and his Department of Integration colleagues are less than helpful, including Twayne (Michael-Leon Wooley), a terrorizing demonic bureaucrat; Mark’s succubus co-worker and casual fling Callie Maggotbone (Natasha Leggero), who has some strange ideas about where to take their relationship; Leonard Powers,(Randy Pearlstein) an aging drunken wizard and Mark’s office mate; and Lt. Grimes (Larry Murphy), a law-enforcement officer who despises non-humans. At least Mark still has his zombie roommate Randall Skeffington (Kurt Metzger), who doesn’t care what Mark does, as long as he covers his half of the rent.

With more monsters than ever before, season two of “Ugly Americans” takes you deeper into the world of an alternate New York City, beginning with the second season premiere on June 30 (“Wet Hot Demonic Summer”). The premiere features Callie and Twayne plotting to infiltrate a secret wizard compound where Leonard is training his apprentice, but their complicated strategy involves building a summer camp on a moment’s notice. With Mark as their head counselor, and Randall, Grimes and the DOI crew along for the ride, they soon discover there’s more to this camp than hot chicks and bug juice.

Other second season episodes include Callie getting a younger, hotter sister; Grimes’ Mummy (Christine Baranski) coming back from the grave to nag him; Twayne dealing with an aggressive Drill Sergeant (Rob Riggle) at basic training; and Mark’s old girlfriend (Jenny Slate) coming back into his life. Throw in a sexually inadequate dragon (Todd Barry) and Mark has got his work cut out for him in this new season full of otherworldly, adventurous fun.

Leading up to the second season premiere, COMEDY CENTRAL Digital will offer fans and newcomers alike access to the world of "Ugly Americans." COMEDY CENTRAL is featuring seven full episodes from the first season for free streaming, along with previews from season two, including clips, character designs, stills and special insights into the show from the writers, as well as a behind-the-scenes documentary, which will be made available on the show's site the week of the new season's premiere. In addition, fans can follow "Ugly Americans" on Facebook and @UglyAmericans on Twitter.

Later this summer, MTV Networks' "345 Games" division will release “Ugly Americans: Apocalypseggedon” (available for Xbox LIVE Arcade and PlayStation Network), a four player co-op side-scroller shooter game that features an exclusive script written by the show’s writers– including a new character unique to the game and custom voiceovers from the show’s actors. Uniting the spirit and humor of the series with addictive game play, players of “Ugly Americans: Apocalypseggedon” will hit the streets to clean up the chaos and prevent the impending apocalypse by resolving case files and fighting otherworldly citizens.

David M. Stern and Daniel Powell are the executive producers of "Ugly Americans," which was created by Devin Clark. Aaron Augenblick and Richard Ferguson-Hull serve as animation directors. Lisa Leingang and Maura Madden are the executives in charge of production for COMEDY CENTRAL.
David M. Stern, series developer and executive producer, began his career writing for "The Wonder Years" during its first three seasons. [Press Release] Walt Disney introduces Wreck-It Ralph

WALT DISNEY ANIMATION STUDIOS INTRODUCES
WILDLY FUNNY NEW CG COMEDY ADVENTURE “WRECK-IT RALPH”

Directed by Emmy® Winner Rich Moore, Hilarious and Wildly Imaginative Animated Movie to Feature the Voices of John C. Reilly, Sarah Silverman, Jack McBrayer and Jane Lynch

BURBANK, Calif. (June 13, 2011) – Some of us are born to be bad, but that doesn’t mean we have to like it. Walt Disney Animation Studios and Emmy®-winning director Rich Moore (TV’s “The Simpsons,” “Futurama”) take moviegoers on a hilarious, video-game-hopping journey in “Wreck-It Ralph,” the story of an arcade game Bad Guy determined to prove he can be a Good Guy. Produced by Clark Spencer (“Lilo & Stitch,” “Bolt”) and featuring the voices of John C. Reilly, Sarah Silverman, Jack McBrayer and Jane Lynch, the CG comedy adventure will hit theaters on Nov. 2, 2012, and will be presented in Disney Digital 3D™ in select theaters.

Says Moore, “I love the idea of a very simple 8-bit video game character struggling with the complex question: ‘isn't there more to life than the role I've been assigned?’ In his quest for the answer, we journey with our hero through three visually distinct video game worlds. It's unlike anything anyone's seen before, and I'm thrilled to be to creating it here at Walt Disney Animation Studios.”

Wreck-It Ralph (voice of Reilly) longs to be as beloved as his game’s perfect Good Guy, Fix-It Felix (voice of McBrayer). Problem is, nobody loves a Bad Guy. But they do love heroes… so when a modern, first-person shooter game arrives featuring tough-as-nails Sergeant Calhoun (voice of Lynch), Ralph sees it as his ticket to heroism and happiness. He sneaks into the game with a simple plan—win a medal—but soon wrecks everything, and accidently unleashes a deadly enemy that threatens every game in the arcade. Ralph’s only hope? Vanellope von Schweetz (voice of Silverman), a young troublemaking “glitch” from a candy-coated cart racing game who might just be the one to teach Ralph what it means to be a Good Guy. But will he realize he is good enough to become a hero before it’s “Game Over” for the entire arcade?

Ben 10 The Movie

Cartoon Network’s Ben 10 is going to be in a cinema near you!. ComingSoon.net is reporting that producer Joel Silver has plans to turn the animated franchise into a live-action motion picture.

According to Silver:
In ‘Ben 10,’ Cartoon Network has built a property that is loved across the world. It has a fun premise with a great leading character that lends itself to the big screen and I am looking forward to seeing how we can take it to the next level.

Ben 10 has already several television movies, including live action one. I wonder if this project will use the same actors. I also wonder which season the film will be set in: Ben 10, Ben 10: Alien Force, or Ben 10: Ultimate Alien.

The project currently has no release date.

I have a confession to make: I can't draw.
DJ Toon

The only form of art I can do is ASCII. Don't get me wrong, typograpghy is is a great talent to have. There are lots of things that can be expressed in text. However, this means I cannot draw DJ Toon.

DJ Toon is our macot here at Toon Radio. He's blue. He has crazy hair. And he has headphones over his ears.

Since I cannot draw, I only have one and one drawing of him to use. His pose in this drawing is great, but I can't put it everywhere.

This is where you guys come in. If you think you can draw, I am going to let you guys borrow him. Place him in any setting you desire, as long as it is respectful. The best submitted drawing each month will be showcased at ToonRadio.net. The rest will be showcased here on the blog. There may also be other prizes in the future.

There are no other rules for this, but remember that DJ Toon has has been copyrighted under the Creative Commons.

The ‘R’ Rating Hurts Animation

Charles Kenny at the Animation Anomaly posted a rant on how the 'R' rating was hurting animation. In its current form, the MPAA rating system does negatively impact animation.

Even though no parent actually notices them, the MPAA ratings system is meant to provide a quick guide for parents to see if a film is suitable for children. The ratings should be familiar to any movie goer. They exist as an alternative to a more government required classification system.

What Mr. Kenny was pointing out that there is no step between PG-13 and R. This shouldn't be a problem, except as he noted, there are no R-rated animated film with a general theatrical release. Kenny proposed that the problem with mature animation is the long barrier between PG-13 and R. There is no incentive to make mature animation, since teenagers cannot see such films without an adult looking over their shoulders.

His solution is to split the gap with a new rating designed for 15 or 16 and up. He noted that such of a rating may encourage studios to make animated films for the "Adult Swim" crowd.

I agree with him on this issue, but I think there can be a bit more. The NC-17 rating was created as a solution to a similar argument. I say that NC-17 should be replaced with an NC-15. An NC-15 would kill both birds with one stone.

17 year olds don't need a NC-17, they are already see R-rated movies. NC-17 was a simple marketing move. It was meant to make it easier for studios to create mature films for people that might be scared away with an R. Moving the rating restriction to 15 would eliminate the need for having an NC-17 in the first place.

If that wasn't enough, an NC-15 would solve Kenny's problem with teenagers and animation. NC-15 would provide a place for studios to make nature films that do not necessarily need an R-rating. This would allow both teenagers and adults to enjoy such films without having to sit along side kids. This includes mature animated films.

Of course, we still have to remove the stigma that animation is for kids, but that's an entirely different problem, which I will cover on a later date.

Episode 11 of the Kool Kids Klub is now available for listen whenever you want.

This episode is about the Looney Tunes Show, which has been airing on Cartoon Network. CrazyChase, Avaitor, and J'onn J'onzz give their reviews of it, and then CrazyChase and J'onn J'onzz discuss the future of Abridged Series and whether an Evangelion Abridged Series should be made.

Here's the Thad K review we mentioned.

Proof that Ozzy Osbourne is a Troll!

Contact Music is reporting that the former Black Sabbath frontman, the self-dubbed Prince of Darkness, Ozzy Osbourne is to become an Earth Troll in an episode of Disney's Fish Hooks as the beastly sea creature.

Entitled Legend of the Earth Troll, the episode will have the 62-year-old rocker as the superhero of the recycling world as fishy friend Oscar (Justin Roiland) encourages his pal Milo (Kyle Massey) to discover the importance of going green.

In an attempt to change his ways, Milo goes full steam ahead on the recycling front but ends up taking things too far and endangering his friends and teachers. from which Osbourne's character has to come and save the day.

The British star isn't the only high-profile name to appear in Fish Hooks. Osbourne will be joining other reoccurring guest stars such as Ferris Bueller's Day Off actress Edie McClurg, The King of Queens comic Jerry Stiller and comedienne Rachel Dratch.

MGM returns to animation with Punk Farm

According to FirstShowing.net, MGM is now out of bankruptcy, and is celebrating with a little bit of animation.
Their last animated feature was the 1989-film "All Digs Go To Heaven". Now as the studio returns to show business , they're looking to get back with an adaptation of Jarrett Krosoczka's children's book Punk Farm. The story follows five barnyard animals who form an underground rock band. It's hipster rock with farm animals!
FYI: the official synopsis of the book:

After Farmer Joe heads to bed, Cow, Goat, Pig, Sheep, and Chicken pull out their instruments and electronic equipment, don their shades, and transform themselves into the rock band Punk Farm. Animals line up outside the barn to buy tickets, then settle in for a rousing show featuring a way-out version of "Old MacDonald Had a Farm," with each musician doing a solo. At sunrise, a none-the-wiser Farmer Joe finds his sound-asleep livestock not quite ready for a big day of work.
Punk Farm will be directed by David Silverman (who animation fans may know as the write for "The Simpsons") with a script by Jim Hecht (Ice Age: The Meltdown) and David Stern (Open Season 2 and 3).
Time will tell if MGM can join the ranks of Pixar, DreamWorks, Sony Pictures Animation and the rest, but, for now, it is great that another company is jumping in to animation.

Sine it is a film about animated rock stars, you now we at Toon Radio will eventually have the soundtrack. ;)

More Looney Tunes Shorts

Warner Bros. has officially announced that the Looney Tunes will have more big screen exposure in the near future. The next one, Daffy’s Rhapsody, will feature Elmer Fudd and Daffy Duck, and is set to be attached to Happy Feet Two this November.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot has writers?

According to Deadline, Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec have officially been hired to write the script for the long in development Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot. It is unknown whether the film will be live-action or animated at this point.

Cepia LLC and Universal Pictures will be releasing two feature-length, animated ZhuZhu Pets films: Quest for Zhu and Power of Zhu; exclusively on DVD later this and next year. Fox Animation developing an animated remake of the 1933 classic King Kong. The film will apparently tell the big ape's side of the story, an interesting take given the tragic ending of the original. [Blog] DC Reboots

My initial reaction to hearing that DC Comics will reboot all their franchises.

I am going to have to make a follow up, but some of what I said still stands.
